Hüttenpalast

Speaking of hotels with charm and atmosphere, the just-opened Hüttenpalast (Hut Palace) is an extremely unique "hotel" in Berlin. A collection of caravans and cabins makes a little campground inside of what used to be a vacuum cleaner factory. The brainchild of event organizer Silke Lorenzen and designer/ chef Sarah Vollmer, Hüttenpalast is a whimsical, tongue-in-cheek recreation of childhood memories of camping by lakes or in forests. Most "rooms" are in a renovated caravan (camper) or a wooden cabin (they all share a common "campground" where guests can hang out in lawn furniture in front of their rooms, socialize with other guests, and walk around in flip flops, even in winter!), but there are also six individual, traditional hotel rooms for those less adventurous types. An actual outdoor courtyard and garden connects the accomodations with the hotel's restaurant which features cuisine made from fresh, local ingredients. Their website says: "This is our ingredients, to make you happy: homemade cake, daily lunch specials, sunshine and garden, herbs growing from tables, regional and seasonal goodies, vegetarian master cooking, breakfast on etageres, cookies baked from mother’s secret recipe… Any more wishes? No problem: We are open for all ideas."
